Inside The Institute of Horror,
Fantasy & Science Fiction 4
Mar. 2011

By AL J. Vermette

On March 12th 2011, Blood Moon Rising Horror
Magazine hosted its 4th year of its event The Institute
of Horror, Fantasy & Science Fiction.  This years event was held once again at
the Queens Flushing Library and with the help of Gina Foizo we had the best
Institute to date.

We had authors come and do a reading from their newest books.  People love to
hear authors read from their works.  After we held a Q&A session with them where
anyone could ask them questions about them, their work or about getting
published.

Like before, we also held a genre art gallery with many wonderful artists
displaying their work.  This year the artists were sat right in the events main lobby
setting so everyone walking by could see their great artwork.

Just like last years  Institute, this event also had make-up artists creating some
wonderful stuff for us.  The two make-up artists brought with them their models
who were transformed into many faces of horror and fantasy all throughout the
days events.

As part of the event, I brought some of my own collection of dinosaurs, skulls, toy
sci/fi action figures to be enjoyed by all.  Also were an assortment of ghosts and
mini creatures as part of my display.

As our featured film maker, we gave that honor to the 14 year old writer and
director Danny Jones who showcased his short films "When Sock Puppets Attack"
and "The Vampire".  Jones’ mix of scary and funny had the film viewers cheering
for more.

Later we showcased the never aired and rarely seen 30 minute pilot episode of
"Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and the 1954 sic/fi classic TV series Flash Gordon.

With the success of this year's Institute, we look forward to next years Institute
already set for March 24rd 2012.  And don't forget to come celebrate Halloween
with us on Oct. 22, 2011 for our Blood Fest show.
