Dark Soul's Nightmare News
Bleed All About It
Sad news in the horror world as we learned that Ben Chapman who played the land creature in the 1954 classic film Creature From The Back Lagoon has died. Chapman who was well into his 70s played the gill-man only once but he was the first actor to bring the gill-man to life as the land Creature, a part that was shared with actor Ricou Browning who did all the under water action. Long time BMR fans will remember Chapman’s interview with our publisher a few years ago in BMR Issue #18. Al said that it was one of the highlights of his career as a publisher to meet the man who played Universal's last classic monster. The world will miss you Ben. Speaking of The Creature From The Black Lagoon the new long.... the long awaited remake is now in the works and set for a 2010 release date. Well if you have yet to hear or read the Blood Notes department yet you will find that Halloween will not end on Oct. 31 this year...oh no! Blood Moon Rising will be reinventing its Blood Fest: Halloween Horror Show this November 1st in an all new location. Blood Fest 5 will be held at the Queens Library in Flushing New York. The show will be free to all so we hope to see you all there. For more info on the new location see our web site @ BloodMoonRisingMagazine.com for the library address and directions. By the way, you will get to meet me (Dark Soul) for I was once again asked to host the show this year by our publisher. So I better see you out there among the bodies. This years show will be the biggest one yet with more films, bigger costume contest and a few spooky things that we want to hold under wraps for now but keep checking with our web site and the next issue of BMR to know more about the new Blood Fest show.
Also in the remake starting gates are and get this, Hellraiser? Yeah I know what the F..k right! Why who knows and get this too. Some ass hole is going to remake Friday The 13th over again. Seems like no one out there in movie land wants to film something new....so lets just remake things over and over again. Now the Creature I can see its been the better part of 50 years but Hellraiser is only 21 years old. Hey here’s an idea people! Shoot a movie of our publishers new book series Lucan! At last that’s something that has not been done to death. (Just thinking about you Al old buddy)
In other movie news, the much awaited follow up to Dog Solders is coming. It is said that this new film picks up where the last one ended with Cooper walking out of the farm house just after blowing it up and killing all the werewolves.... or were they? Also, in other werewolf news Underworld: Rise of The Lycans is on the way. This new film tells the story of how the war between the two creatures all got started. The first two Underworld movies showed little clips on the wars beginnings but this new film goes much more into depth. For dark hero news, Hellboy 2 is coming out this summer and is joined by his comic book brothers Iron Man, Bat Man in The Dark Knight, and yes The Hulk is once a gain being remade. It seems that the first movie is just being over looked and they are starting this one fresh. For all you order kids out there who grew up in the 70s like me. The Saturday morning kids show Land of The Lost is getting the big screen treatment. That’s right kids, the show with all the monkey men, reptile people and clay dinos are back in a big budget movie that went into production in March. Land of The Lost: The Movie is set for a 2009 release.
